River Fishing Tactics

For me there are few things in life as wonderful as standing up to my waste in a flowing river attempting to catch a fish. To me, this is river fishing, and it's as close to heaven that I can get. In this article I'm going to discuss some river fishing tactics that will help you become a much more efficient and successful angler. These tactics nave been proven through more than fifty years of combined river fishing experience, and will help you as soon as you implement them

When it comes to river fishing, the first tactic I'm going to discuss is to make sure that you're on the water at the proper times. The proper time to be on the water is simpler than you might imagine. It has to do with two forces of Mother Nature, specifically the weather and moon. That's right these two factors, the weather and moon, have as much to do with you catching fish as the type of bait/lure you use.

Tactics

In order to nail down this river fishing tactic, making sure that you're on the water at the best times, you need to pay attention to the weather and moon. Using this information to your advantage is a great river fishing tactic. It's not necessary to become a scholar on the subjects either. You can learn what you need to know by doing a little research (which as we all know is free on the internet).

The next river fishing tactic is to always present your bait in a natural manner. In most instances, especially with live worms, this means using gang hooks. I always have gang hooks with me while river fishing and you should as well. You see, gang hooks are simply a pair of small hooks tied in tandem, thus enabling live bait to be presented in a totally natural manner. This makes a huge difference in bite rates.

When river fishing it's also important that your bait is always at your fingertips waiting to be used, rather than hidden in your fishing vest somewhere. This is where a bait bag comes into play. A bait bag is simple a small pouch that hangs from your body and holds your bait while river fishing. This way your bait is always at your fingertips and baiting up takes seconds, rather than minutes. This means you get more time with your line in the water (where the fish are), rather than out of the water. Employing a bait bag is a great river fishing tactic.

Start employing these simple (yet incredibly effective) river fishing tactics sooner, rather than later, and you'll become a much more successful angler. How am I so sure of this? Because I've personally been using these tactics for more than 20 years and know how effective they are. And if I'm lying, what the worst that could happen? You'll catch the same amount of fish that you normally catch and you wasted 2 minutes reading this article? That's the worst that could happen.
